SKILLS AND DEVELOPMENT
Learning & Education
The set is great for building fine motor skills, body balance, hand eye coordination, develop and strengthen visual perception skills, visual motor coordination. It also teaches the tot object permanence, or the concept that something can disappear and still exists, it is permanent.
Discover & Experiment
This material develops hand-eye coordination and indirectly allows the child to experience object permanence. It practices precise hand movements while sending information to the brain as well as develops hand, wrist and finger control - also known as "refined hand movements". With repeated use of this material, the child learns how it feels to succeed when he has achieved a goal on his own.
Manipulate & Handle
This activity gives the child practice with placing the ball through the hole and then challenges them to open the drawer to find the ball. The ball is then retrieved from the front of the box in the drawer to repeat the activity. They can work with the toy for long periods of time, repeating the gestures over and over again.
One of the “iconic”objects in the Montessori pedagogy is the Object Permanence Box. And this is with a reason. Understanding the permanence of the object is one of the first developmental accomplishments of a child, according to the Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget. The Object Permanence Box helps the toddler understand that objects continue to exist even when not perceived, and so are people. In other words, when mommy or daddy goes out of the room they will come back. Always.
